Quick Guide

How do I get started in the Amazon River SIMs?

Rules

  • Accept the Experience (Experience Tantrica Banana), and always wear the Amazon Life HUD
  • Keep things realistic.
  • Respect each other and behave like adults.
  • Follow the instructions of all Amazon Leaders.

Moderation, Role-play and Roles

    • This is the Amazon River and Rainforest. The setting is modern day. The jungle is home to natives, settlers, wildlife and everyone in between!
    • Keep it real.
    • This is not a "shoot 'em up" SIM - we encourage role-play here in preference to simply shooting and downing.
    • The roles are explained here. To get a 'Local' role, find a Seeker or Monk and role-play with them. Do not IM them for a role or tag: role-play.
    • Read the Blog for more information and background about the Amazon.
    • We do not moderate role-play. We expect you to behave like adults and resolve matters sensibly amongst yourselves, in character (IC) or in IM (OOC) if necessary,
    • Some people visit the Amazon to enjoy the scenery, to take photos or to make Machinima videos. We welcome them - please respect those who are here for the scenery rather than the role-play.
    • Griefers, trolls and troublemakers will be dealt with swiftly OOC.
    • For more information on Role-Play in the Amazon, please take a look at our "Amazon Basic Role-Play Guide".

      Capture Role-play (CARP)

      • The Amazon Life HUD supports CARP.  It limits the number of shots you have.
      • You down people by shooting at them with ranged weapons or by close-quarters fighting (melee). You can 'Bind' them by clicking them when they are down. Role-play it. Keep it real.
      • If you are 'downed' you cannot TP.  Play out the capture in role-play realistically. Keep it real.
      • You can "buy" shots by trading found items for Amazon Coins at the Trading Tables. Amazon Coins are for role-play only and have no value or exchange for Linden Dollars.
      • You can make shots (arrows or bullets) at the Ammo Workbench when it is available.
      • Use role-play for attacks and captures.  This is not a 'pew-pew' SIM. Flying vehicles/birds may not be used as part of capture. Keep it real.
      • The landing area is not a safe area.
      • You should be sure that your planned 'aid' in a CARP scene/skirmish/attack is welcome. Few people like 'White Knights'.
      • Some players have better resistance to shots and more ammo than others (special roles)

      Weapons, Vehicles and Avatar Dress/Appearance

      • The Amazon Life HUD will work with all weapons - melee and ranged. The number of effective shots you have is limited by the HUD - use them wisely. Once your shots are exhausted, your weapon will have no effect until you reload your ammo in the HUD.
      • Do not use magic HUD's, spells, orbs, pushers or other such devices.
      • Use weapons that are appropriate to your role - i.e. no machine guns for natives. No nuclear missiles for explorers!
      • You may use flying vehicles/birds other than those provided by the Amazon, but please be sure they self-delete if you happen to be unseated, to avoid littering the SIM (especially important for Supporters). Flying vehicles/birds may not be used as part of a capture - all passengers must be voluntary (no leashing when flying).
      • Dress in a way that is appropriate to your role - natives dress as natives, explorers as explorers etc. Wearing high-heels, bling or face-lights will likely get you arrested.
      • Whilst we welcome the diversity of SL at the Amazon, we aim to keep the 'feel' realistic. Please use common sense in your choice of avatar.  Giant robots are not seen in the Amazon, nor is SpongeBob!
      • We welcome wildlife at the Amazon and have a role for animals. The wildlife role will be granted to animals that 'fit' the Amazon - this does not include anime bunnies and such like :-)

      The Amazon Life HUD

      • You must wear the Amazon Life HUD while you are in the Amazon.
      • The HUD attaches silently top centre of your viewer when you accept the Experience Permissions and, if you have visited before, when you walk into the jungle away from the Landing Zone.
      • The Amazon Life HUD does not appear in your inventory and will auto-detach when you leave the Amazon Regions.
      • If you fail to eat regularly, you will 'faint'.
      • Touching your Amazon Life HUD gives you many useful tools, read more about the Amazon Life HUD here.

      Trading

      • Various items around the Amazon can be collected and traded for 'Coins' at the Trading Tables, or used as role-play aids with others using our 'Cashless' System.
      • Amazon Coin can be used as role-play aids, you can 'pay' another player, or they can be used to "buy" arrows, food and many other supplies throughout the jungle.

      Supporters and Donations

      • The Amazon Regions cost a significant amount of RL cash to run and maintain. You can help the region thrive by making donations at the Landing Zone or at the donation points scattered over the regions (a silver bottle). Every donation, no matter how small, is appreciated.
      • You can help develop and extend the Amazon and make a home here by becoming a Supporter.
      • To become a Supporter, click an unclaimed board at the Supporter Panels at the Landing Zone, or, if none are free, add your name to the waiting list by clicking the 'waiting list' sign.

      Quests

      • There are many quests in the Amazon - most of which give you a reward of some sort - for example: a bird to fly, a bow, melee weapons, necklaces, potions, masks, drums and many other 'goodies' too numerous to mention.  Your Amazon Life HUD and the Quest tree, can help you find them!

      Building Guidelines

      • Always observe the Building Guidelines which you can find here.  No sculpts, and keep things in theme and looking good!

      Getting Help

      • Any member of our Leader team is happy to help you. But we have the Amazon Mentor team who are there, specifically to help you. They are happy to help you if you have questions about the Amazon way of life, role-play, your Amazon Life HUD etc. You can contact an Amazon Mentor by using the contact sign that you will find at the Guarani Camp in 'Deep Drop', overlooking the Swamp (look for the signal fires). You will find it in the jungle's cave system. Furthermore, you can also contact a Mentor by using the 'Mentor' button on your Life HUD.
