AMAZON -- What was supposed to be a peaceful protest erupted into an act of terrorism this week, causing a major ecological disaster as toxic, black fumes plumed over the jungle.

Now, powerful business leaders in the Amazon are pointing fingers at each other, while anti-progress activists become more radicalized.

Over a month ago, the Raiders established Gunk Werks, an energy company that produces oil and natural gas, near the Raiders’ compound in the western highlands of Lago Marimba.

As is the case with any industrial company in its infancy, Gunk Werks had some pollution problems. Concerned about this pollution, Hope, a member of the seeker cult, organized a peaceful protest involving the Xocó tribe.

For reasons that remain unclear, the protest turned violent, and the protestors destroyed the Gunk Werks production facilities, sending clouds of toxic smoke over the rainforest, which was visible for a dozen miles away.

According to Eve Fintan, co-owner of the Catadore Resort, Hope got the terrorists who unleashed this ecological disaster “riled up,” which led to their violent behavior in what was supposed to be a peaceful demonstration.

Despite multiple witnesses saying the Xocó tribe were involved in the ecological disaster unleashed by the act of wanton vandalism, representatives of the tribe, including its Chieftess Khaing Zar, denied any involvement in violence.

"As you know, we're just simple natives without a firebomb to our name, trying to keep the waterways clean,” said Zeta Blackheart, a Xocó tribe woman.

Syd Straaf, co-owner of Gunk Werks, claims the original concerns about pollution were greatly exaggerated. He also pointed out, as did Fintan, that members of the Xocó regularly use helicopters, which run on fossil fuels.

“It's a pretty blatant case of ‘not in my backyard.’ The Raiders have always strode to bring the natives into the modern age, and what's more ‘civilized’ than being a consumer who doesn't take responsibility for the mess they make?” Straaf said.

Straaf also said that Gunk Werks was in the process of addressing the pollution problems, which were just a matter of working out early kinks in their operations. And they have a financial interest in preventing oil spills.

“We definitely need to improve efficiency,” he said. “Less oil seeping into the ground means more product to sell.”

Unfortunately, the terrorists’ actions, besides causing widespread air pollution, will cost the company much of the capital that was going to go into addressing pollution problems. Ironically, these eco-terrorists are producing more pollution than the production facilities.

Further complicating the issue is the involvement of another seeker, Tantrica, who is establishing a tribe she calls the “Extinction Rebellion.” Tantrica branded three of the Raiders, has denied them any clothing, and enslaved them.

“I am on my mission as wrath of nature and mark all those who violate the beauty of the woods. With their branding, I claim them as my property, cattle. And I own now three Raiders,” the radical seeker said.

Since much of the energy being produced was going to power schools and hospitals, it would appear Tantrica’s tribe will see to it that people remain poor, uneducated, and without health care.

Straaf pointed out the hypocrisy of Tantrica, a member of a cult that eschews all clothing, would punish people by taking their clothes away.

“It's interesting to me that people who are naked all the time would consider nudity to be a punishment,” he said.

Straaf also accused Fintan of being involved in the terrorists’ actions, claiming she was motivated by a financial interest in an emerald mine that had been impacted by Gunk Werks’ pollution. He denied Tantrica actually owns any Raiders, but said Fintan had helped Tantrica brand one of them.

“That suggests Eve and Tantrica are in cahoots and obviously means their intent is to claim the emeralds together and use Raider slaves to dig the mines,” Straaf said.

Fintan vehemently denied the allegations. She claims she had actually tried to help Gunk Werks address their pollution issues and provided documentation of these efforts. This included sending an indentured servant of Fintan’s resort over to help with cleanup, as well as offering what appears to be sexual services from her resort employees to volunteers who had become ill from the pollution in the course of helping clean it.

She also accused Gunk Werks of trying to sabotage her businesses.

"They've always competed with us! We told them I was building a resort before it was built. What do they do? Try to shake us down for our money and get the natives against us. Then they went and built that flea bag Raiders Inn,” she said.

Straaf, meanwhile, insists they are trying to do good for the Amazon and are being unfairly maligned by competing financial interests and violent terrorists.

“The Raiders provide a valuable service to the people of the jungle and are persecuted for it. We stand up for the rights of all people, including natives, to fly helicopters. And we get punished for it,” he said.

Fintan also stated she is not opposed to oil production and sees great benefit in it. However, she said that Gunk Werks is running a poor operation, which was only causing problems and riling up terrorist natives.

“I think the oil is a blessing,” she said. “and it’s being wasted. I blame the Xocó and Raiders-- not one or the other. [The] Xocó [are] literally burning money. If I owned that place it would be clean...This is why we can’t have nice things.”

As of Wednesday evening, the fires had been extinguished and Gunk Werks appears to be rebuilding its facilities so that people can have schools, hospitals, sanitary water, and other life-giving services that Tantrica, Hope, and the Xocó apparently hate.
