AMAZON -- On Sunday, Dec. 15, at noon, the Daughters of Mama Killa will present The Legend of Ollantay and Cusi, a play based on a legend thought to date from the 15th century and first recorded in Spanish by Antonio Valdez, a catholic priest in about 1770.

In the tradition of Romeo and Juliet, The Legend of Ollantay and Cusi tells the story of forbidden love in the Inca Empire.

Carmen, a servant of Valdez, introduced the story and set the scene. Princess Cusi, daughter of the great Inca Pachacutec, meets and falls in love with General Ollantay, a general high in the ranks of the Incas armies but of low birth and so not fit to marry into the Inca Royal Family.

In defiance of the Inca, they marry in secret, a decision that will spark a war.

We hope you will come see this performance, a first for Amazon theater, this Sunday, Dec. 15, at noon. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
