AMAZON -- The Amazon exploded on Suday with color in a vivid and dizzying celebration of Carnival.

Many jungle events have drawn large crowds, but the Carnival parade may have brought one of the largest. A diverse selection from a variety of factions and associations, including Raiders, Xoco, Tapirape, the Catadore Resort, the Amazon Cartel, the Mercenaries, the City of the Lost, Daughters of the Mama Killa, and others were among those who paraded miles across the rain forest.

Several photographers captured the kaleidoscopic event, including Tracey Rousseau, Ath Hotshot, Baron La Croix, Namida Giulia, and Dylan Fintan. You can see their impressive work at on the Amazon Flickr site.

It wasn’t just the size of the crowd that made the event so spectacular, but also the enthusiastic participation of the revelers. The rainbow of costumes plumed up the river as this swarm of celebrants paraded from the Landing and all the way up the river to the Tapirape camp.

There, the main organizers of the event gave speeches. Eva, chieftess of the Tapirape, spoke of her tribe’s pride and called on others to show each other respect and tolerance. She also claimed the Tapirape are not, despite widespread accounts otherwise, hippies.

She said that, while the tribe is warm and welcoming to guests, the tribe will “fight when they are attacked.”

Xoco Chieftess Khaing Zar told a native myth about how, like, she drank a bunch of rum and was too drunk to leave the tavern. There was some guy there selling stars, which he carried in a bag. Then, a bunch of owls tried to sacrifice fate so the stars would be happy, and they feasted on some eyeballs. Oh, and there was a mouse that stole a heart.

Anyways, they all felt bad about murdering fate and so now no one can know the future or something. And Khaing passed out in the tavern.

“Since you believe a guy selling stars, I'm selling Amazon river water if you're interested,” Syd Straaf of the Raiders offered.

Eve Fintan, owner of the Catadore Resort, thanked the Tapirape for their hospitality. She also reminded everyone of the flotilla contest coming this weekend. These displays may be seen up at the Party location (teleport #19). Judging will begin this Friday at 1 p.m., and the Xoco will hold a special Carnival-themed dance at the location.

On Sunday, March 1, at noon, there will be a pageant, where the Carnival King and Queen will be chosen.

“Whether you are competing or not we hope to see you all there next weekend,” Fintan said.
