AMAZON -- A new photography exhibit portraying aspects of jungle life opened today. The exhibit is called "A Day in the Life," and it features the work of Cento Sogni, a healer and long-time resident of the Amazon.

The photographs, dozens of them, tell stories of life in the jungle, from hunting to love to healing.

Cento, who primarily goes by his first name, has been building the photographic collection for months now. The exhibit will run through Aug. 15 and can be viewed at the Party site (TP#19).

The grand opening event held today attracted a number of high-profile individuals in the jungle, including Chieftess Khaing of the Xocó, the philanthropic Hartsongs, and Olympic gold medalist Helen, also of the Xocó.

Dr. Max Atuaa was among the notable
names at the exhibit's grand opening party.

"So where did this idea come from? Well the Amazon is a beautiful place. And not just the jungle itself but all the people that live here," Cento said before the curtains were lifted to display his work. "It's essentially a tribute -- my way of honoring the Amazon and all of you."

The pieces used a number of models who are actual residents of the Amazon, including Eve Heartsong, Whispering Wind, and convicted rapist Tantrica Banana.

"It's an incredible place, and inspiration comes easy," Cento said of the source of his artistic vision. "The creative part is I try to portray in a way that hasn't been done before."

Cento said he's been practicing his craft long before arriving in the Amazon, and he also maintains a gallery in an unspecified metropolitan area.

His work will be available for viewing at the Amazon gallery (TP#19), or you can see the exhibits on Cento's Flickr site. Be sure to favorite and follow.
