AMAZON — The first ever Jungle Escapade event went off without a hitch Sunday, and it was the Tapirape and Xoco who beat them all.

Cookie of the Tapirape Tribe took first place in the event. Helen of the Xocó took second, and Beda of the Tapirape went home with a third-place win.

Athletes from across the Amazon competed in the new game.

The game was created by Catten and Whispering Wind of the Tapirape. The athletes ran a course for about 20 miles (32 kilometers) across the rainforest. Along the route were targets the runners could shoot for more points.

Stella Storm, Eve Heartsong, Dylan Heartsong, and Namida Guilia of the Catadore Resort helped organize the event.

The event was well attended and Whispering said, if there's enough demand for it, they'll hold the competition again in the future.

"We're certainly open to it," Whispering said.
