AMAZON — Continuing the native tradition of worshiping every rock, bird, and twig, the Tapirape will be spending all next week worshiping ... fish! This year, the fishy festivities will be in the Hidden Valley, across the river from Gallivant's Clearing.

Last year's Fishing Week was a huge success, and the celebration of our swimming friends returns on June 21. People of all tribes, factions, and independent association are welcome to participate.

The Tapis believe it's not enough just to kill, fry, and eat the fish with some butter and lemon. No, dinner is sacred, of course. According to Tapis tradition, before their people hunt or fish, a qualified shaman must communicate with the creatures of the sea to ask permission and protection from Mama Cocha before breading and seasoning the delicious source of Omega 3 and protein.

Beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 21, the Tapi will move their whole tribe to the Hidden Valley. They will then hold story hour, together with the Xocó, including spooky stories and ghost tales.

The events will continue every day next week, with fishing contests, cock blessings, rituals, and dancing. But there will be no fish fry. Anyways...a full schedule of events can be found below. Hope to see you all there!
