AMAZON — The Tapirapés last Sunday turned bodies into art.

The free body painting at Gallivant’s Clearing was hugely popular, with people coming from all around to celebrate the Day of the Dead with the tribe, whose stomping grounds lay near the Love Temple.

The event began near dawn and continued uninterrupted for 11 hours. So many people turned up for the event that Catten Carter, tribe member, said he’s not sure how many people were there.

Whispering apparently got more than her boobs painted.

“While this Tapi’s knows the numbers… and the letters, I quickly lost count of the amount of people that got painted,” the native man said.

The Tapis had to have new supplies of paint from their camp, in order to meet the demand.

Besides body painting, the Tapi Shaman, Whispering Wind, also provided ointment to help prevent carpal tunnel syndrome in the overworked painters.

A lot of gossip was exchanged during the painting, and some guests said they had come from far to get painted.

Carter said anyone who missed out on the Day of the Dead painting are welcome to stop by the Tapi camp receive a painting.

The tribe is planning to repeat the body painting ritual at future celebrations in the jungle.

“Thank you to everyone that helped paint or stopped by to get painted,” Carter said.

The Tapis had a team of painters on hand for the event.

Catten concentrates on another masterpiece.
