AMAZON — The Shipwreck Race returned to the Amazon this weekend. Leila Yasmine and Helen of the Xoco tied for first in the event.

Twenty racers from all tribes, factions, as well as those with no affiliation, turned out to compete. The race, which was organized by Catten Carter and the Tapirape tribe, challenges river folk to show off their waterway navigation skills by rowing barrels for miles up and down the mighty Amazon. This year, more than one racer got caught in the unpredictable currents of the river's bends and eddies.

It was a close race for the winners. Following Leila and Helen, who completed the race with a time of 12 minutes and 2 seconds, was RaihanChy with a time of 12 minutes and 6 seconds. Lastly, NateStone finished in third place with a time of 12 minutes and 12 seconds.

"I would like to thank all the brave inhabitants of the jungle for joining the Shipwreck Race,” Carter said. “We're fairly certain most racers survived, and so I would consider the race a great success. I'd also like to send a special thank you to my wife and shaman, Whisper, as well my tribe for helping arrange all this.”
